squeaking
« on: 13 September 2016, 19:32 »
There is a squeak or groan coming from the drivers side rear, I thought it was the back seats but if I gently rock the car back and forward it seems to be coming from the suspension, it's only a few months old and 2500 miles any ideas?

Has it been very dry round your way?  Sometimes bushes dry out a little after a good shower and a drive it dissapears.

I had this, I searched online finding various threads and videos about shock absorbers etc..

It turned out to be the adjustable rubber stops on the rear tailgate.

I was surprised it was such a simple fix, it sounded far worse.

Not as pronounced as that, at least not yet, but by using that rocking movement it does produce a squeak . As I am driving it sounds like a creak from the rear seat area...it may even be both.

It is in the garage so it's kept dryer than most..in response to the earlier post.

are you sure it's not from the inside? I had once with a new Audi A4 a loose little spring inside the passenger seat that made a noise and it drove me crazy. I had to go 3 times to the dealer to get it solved

1st visit they told me it was imagination

2nd time they said it was the license plate and fixed that one

At the end I asked that a mecanic would join me for a test ride. he took place in the back and identified the noise

I got a bit closer to finding the cause...back seats are creaking from the drivers side only but it was dark so I will have to wait until daylight...anybody had this?

An update as it might be useful, after checking the seats and finding nothing amiss I moved to the suspension on the drivers side, laying underneath I could see that the strut had a protective plastic collar fitted over the top part and it was not sealed.
I thought that it is possible with all my washing and the wet roads that some water might have penetrated the collar and done its worst on the suspension rod....so I decided to spray some wd 40 up the gap between the collar and strut, then the spring's just to make sure, I have gone for a good run out to check for the noise and thankfully it's gone, it was persistent and annoying so I am pretty sure its cured.

The problem with WD40 is it will just dry out and your problem will return.
