Breakdown renewal- Anybody taken this?
« on: 30 June 2016, 22:42 »
Just had a reminder my 12mth breakdown cover expires soon. Vw are kindly offering a discount to continue the service. £89 for 12mth or £145 for 24 mths cover.

I'm guessing I can get similar cover for less if I shop around.

Just wondered what the good people on this forum are doing?

Bit their hand off at that price - for soup to nuts UK and Europe cover I got nothing even close for cost and confidence they would deliver if needed.

Mine has just expired but as the Tiguan is due to be built next week i'm chancing it without!! but in the past i've always renewed the VW cover, it's not bad value imo.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

Mine had elapsed and I got round to getting cover last week,I just want basic cover to get me to the nearest VW garage so ended up paying £18 for a years cover with Start Rescue.
VW assistance way to expensive, someone I know used Start Rescue so I know they come and attend promptly if required.

Never had any reminders from VW on breakdown cover - come to think of it, never had any documentation when taking delivery of a new car that we even have breakdown cover (I know all new VW's are supposed to come with 12 months). How do you check ?

You should have had a 'Roadside Assistance' handbook along with the 'Owner's manual' with the new car followed up by your personalised membership card some weeks later in the post.

You could telephone 0800 777 192 (UK breakdown number) to ensure you're on their database for starters.

These policies are just white-labelled from the AA.

Much better to get yourself an account on Quidco and create a new policy switching between RAC and The AA each year. :-)

Saves yourself a good few £ - for example, I have cover for 2 cars (home start) for around £20 a year after cashback.
