Red looks a lot better. I think the problem with the chrome is the lack of any other chrome on the car so it looks out of place. I like acontrast so that's one of the reasons I love TR.

If you spend enough time on a forum you will see most things are subjective and what only ever counts is what you think.

Its maybe my age but the main appeal of the Golf for me personally is the understated and subtlety of the sporting touches and my only personal additions would be basically what Rebecca has done with maybe a couple more nods to the R with the door sills, footrest and car mats (which do intend to get myself when mine delivered)

So as much as looks as if you have done it very well with good clean finishes but its again not for me

But as stated I am very much the person who would never look to enhance and most things are a no go regardless and I would be more likely to understate some more, maybe like the black additions on the Audi, with its less is more look.

Your entitled to do whatever you want to your car but it looks bloody awful and red would look even worse. If you wanted them to stand out you shouldn't have went with black in the first place

A good summing up, I personally really like it but I understand not everyone will. If it had been a light colour I would have left it well alone but like I have already sain without over doing it I wanted to bring the fins to life as on a dark colour I feel they get lost.

A good summing up ,I actualy really like the golf R black with the chrome front sill and I dont feel its too much on the gti either.

Thanks for your thoughts

The only thing I can say is thats your view and not a problem with me, I happen to like the black and always intended to do something with it...I like how it looks with the chrome more than stock...and if we all liked the same thing it would be pretty boring and some of the really good mods that have been done right through the golfs from mk 1 to mk 7 wouldnt have happened

thanks for your view though.

Dont know , I did try red first but the plastic i choose wasnt good enough but I do think it goes well with the chrome vw badge...cheers

One of the things that's spoils the look of the R is the chrome touches. Very naff

As long as you are happy that's all that matters. A couple of posts have eluded to my view ... You have a black car and are trying to create contrast. I like contrast so I get what your trying to achieve. That's why a went for white to constant against the black trim and red badges and red calipers.

Looking at your pics I prefer the red as its matches the grill stripe badges calipers .

Yeah I love white but my last golf was white so wanted to mix things up...I would be really happy to get some stainless steel caps fitted oner the fins but thats not going to happen, and you are spot on it is all about the contrast...cheers

The red fins on a dark colour/black has already been done by no less than VW themselves.  Well actually it was their apprentices on a concept Golf edition 40.  However if you want to see what it looks like with a production version of the red fins on a GTI please refer to the link below.  It looks OK, but I am not so sure myself, they do look a little bit Halfords to me.  It doesn't look as classy or understated as you would expect a golf to be.  But everyone to their own......
