« on: 24 May 2016, 21:16 »
Looking to put these on the wife's golf in the winter.  Anyone had any experience with them?  Some good deals around at the moment

Thanks

Got them on my winter alloys, not really been tested the last 2 years I have had them, I got them because I had seen some really good reviews on them.
Gti, Candy White, 3door, DSG, Leather, Rear LEDs, Bluefin, Milltek, vwr intake, Focal speakers.

How did they feel in the last 2 mild winters?  More interested in wet running / cold morning rather than snow.

Thanks

I had them on our A1 for a couple of years.
I got them due to the reviews about them.
When it snows, the one road in and out of our housing estate can be treacherous as its uphill and if you don't get a run at it then you have to reverse and try again. So I put these tyres on and the year we had some snow I was able to stop halfway up the hill and then continue on as if I was driving on dry tarmac.

I don't know how they compare to other winter tyres a they are the only ones I've had but I would have no hesitation getting another set for myself.

Excellent thank you, good actual user info is exactly what I'm after.  Tyre test reviews are so ambiguous online

I don't know what size you're looking at but at 205 55 16 Nokian winter tyres aren't much more than Nankang...... and will quite likely last longer.

Looking to put these on the wife's golf in the winter.

Would you put those on your own car? I wouldn't put them on my car.

My wife has better winter tyres than I have - Continental TS850. Arguably the best winter tyres available.

Premium tyres have been proven to work significantly better than budget tyres in all conditions.

Tyres are the one thing I would not want to save money on. In my opinion they are the most important part of any car.

We have Michelin alpin on my wife's car all year. So far they have done 22000 miles but the fronts will need replacing this Autumn. We run them all year because I have to be able to get across rough  farms tracks and grass fields and they give me the traction  I need . I refuse to have SUVs or four wheel drive. The Gti has continental winter tyres and tombstones in summer. I have used, in the past, Hankooks ( bit odd feeling in the handling department but excellent traction) ,Nokians (brilliant all round ) and
Vredestein . The vreds were excellent too. I could recommend then all with the proviso re handling on the Hankooks . All will be shed loads better than any summer tyre. If you want some 19in Nokians I have four for sale .
