Mk7 GTI Wandering Steering (slightly)

I have run a Mk6 GTD and then a Mk6 GTI over the last few years, both on Goodyear F1 Eagle AS2 tyres all round and they sat rock solid and steered "hands off" straight at speed.
I bought an Oct 13 Mk7 GTI recently (1 owner, 24K miles) and while the handling and ride are better the car requires constant slight steering correction inputs on straight smooth roads.
It has new Conti Sports on front and Bridgestones on rear. I have had 3D 4 wheel alignment done which shows it was pretty much spot on anyway so no difference has been achieved.
The problem is a slight one but annoying as not relaxing to drive on m/way.
Anyone else experience this?

I think I know what you mean. I've experienced this and thought I was going mad. I've personally found this to be at its worst in 'comfort' steering mode where there is more play in the steering (for the same movement). Not so noticeable when in sport or normal steering mode.

No uneven wear (tyres on front and back covered around 10k now) and alignment is fine, pressures are the right values etc.

I never select Eco and usually run on Standard unless I am around town when it's Sport.
Might try Sport on M/way to see if that tightens it up......but the car ought to be consistent whatever.

Hmmmmm....OK so I have posted the most boring item in the history of the forum.

Obviously there are only two people who have a problem with the steering issue.

Hi there P6GTD, peoples may be out and about today as the sun's been out for a change. Patience is a virtue There's lots of very friendly and helpful people here in my experience so it's well worth sticking around. I've not noticed anything too untoward with regards to your issue but mine does get caught out on the concrete sections of the M25 and gets very fidgety but on good flat tarmaced surfaces it's absolutely fine. Are your tyre pressures okay? Perhaps a dealer visit is required. Good luck

PS - there's nothing more than most people on here like than some great pictures of member's cars Perhaps add your car's spec to your signature strip?

PPS - do hang around, plenty of good advice to be had on here for all sorts of issues and upgrades etc..

I keep a keen eye on my tyre pressures and today, my tyre pressure monitor went of for the first time.
It indicated that my nearside front was low.
I've just checked them all now and they were all slightly down but I'm assuming that's to do with tyre temperature.
It won't take much to make your car wander on a straight road so it's well worth checking them on a weekly basis.
If they are all fine and the car is still off, I'd get the geometry checked again

Yes, as a regular observer visitor to the site since 2011 I know there are lots of nice folk on the forum and I appreciate how helpful most want to be to fellow owners.
My tyre pressures are 100% all the time so that's not the issue.
I can only describe the steering feel as being slightly "sticky" as opposed to the 2 Mk6s which had a smooth feeling to the wheel and were planted.
I will sit back and see if anyone identifies with this.
My suspicion is if I change front tyres in due course this will resolve

I'd still be suspecting the tyres, how about swapping the fronts with the rears to see if that makes a difference?

If the steering is wandering it sounds like worn wishbone ball joints or shot roll bar bushes. These cars are tight.  Have you checked it hasn't been in an accident?

Do you have Lane assist? My car feels like it's tramlining at times but it's the lane assist doing its thing
