MIB II & Bluetooth

Hi all. Due to pick the new GTD up on Saturday and just noticed that for the MIB II, it states that two phones can be connected at the same time. As I've specced Tech Pack and Advanced phone prep (just to get the heated windscreen), does that mean exactly that, i.e. I can have my works Iphone (on which 90% of my calls are made), connected as well as my personal Galaxy S5 (for which I have a decent monthly data plan) connected to the car at the same time ?

If so, do you just select which one take priority over the other for example displaying favorite contacts on the Phone screen. Furthermore, if I have say the Galaxy S5 connected as the main phone for example, (to get the nice contacts photo display), and a call comes in on my Iphone at the same time, will it still ring and be able to to connect even though the other phone is the "main" phone, if you know what i mean. Or have I completely misunderstood this feature ?

Not sure of the answer but as interested as you to find out for pretty much same reasons.

My thought was one would be dominant and there were be easy selection between the two, press of a button for when you want to dial out and incoming calls would come from either seamlessly.

On the Iphone imagine you can just Siri the call want to make and no matter whether it was the dominant phone on screen, it would make the call.

Imagine it will not be far off something like that and definitely a nice addition.

Personally looking forward to slightly bigger screen, the App-Connect and the faster processing as have stayed with the standard and the MIB1 is really the only thing not been overly happy with on the GTD

Grab the VW iOwn documentation app for your Apple device and download the MIBII manual

If you haven't been Borg'ed by Apple though you will have to wait to get your paper copy with the car.

I mean piracy of car manuals is absolutely rife and VW must crack down on it. Who knows how many Ford owners might get a Golf manual illegally otherwise.

Yes you can have 2 phones connected at the same time and you can make/receive calls from either of them. It's a while since I tried it, but I think my wife's phone is configured to connect up whenever she's a passenger in the car but I can't remember the exact logistics of how the 2 phones behaved when both connected. I can try it out later and report back...

Good news for you Sootchooker, I tried it in my car just now and I think it will work for you.

I can connect both mine and wife's phone simultaneously. I can set separate speed dial / favourites for each one. On the phone "home screen" there's a button where you can switch between the 2 phones. If a call comes into either of the phones it'll go through the Bluetooth and the screen will indicate which phone is ringing. And if you want to dial out you can select which phone to make the call on. It'll default to whichever one you last used I think, or maybe one of the phones (the one you setup first) takes priority.

That new functionality sounds great, shame the MIB2 cannot be retrofitted into our older cars.

As an aside, I thought you were getting a GTI Sootchucker? What made you change your mind?

Kyle, yes I'd set my heart on a GTI as my annual mileage had dropped to sub 9k a year. However shortly after ordering the car, my job changed (with responsibility for the whole of the UK) meaning my potential mileage would increase to something around 15-17k a year (I can use my own car for journeys of shorter than 100 miles, and be paid a good mileage for it).

Couple that with our best friends moving to Swansea and my father-in-law to Alloa in Scotland, and I projected that the miles and MPG for a GTI would just be a bit too prohibitive for me. I know some people do it, but I didn't want my fuel bill doubling a month.

My heart still says I should have stayed with the GTI but my head (and the wife - who's a Bank manager) said otherwise 

Maybe next time (not that driving a GTD is a hardship - I love mine).
