Tyres!!!
« on: 10 April 2016, 13:03 »
Hi all,

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!!!!

My car went in for its first service last week and needs two front tyres. Obviously good news to get shot of the bridgestones. I looked online and Iv asked for Continental sport 5's to go on at £106 a corner. I thought that was reasonable.

I know tyres are always talked about but my question is are the conti 5's one of the best to go for or would anyone recommend anything different?

Cheers

Ben

Tyres are bit personal - everyone has their favourites, (except Bridgestones!). I always go for the Conti's as they are always at or near the top of EVO magazine's annual test.

Get them swapped to the back, if you haven't already, then the remaining Bridgestones will depart next! Back tyres last a lot longer than fronts.

Conti 5 are great, that doesn't seem the best deal to me. I normally find a local tyre place to come close to online quotes.
I would aim for nearer £90 a corner on the conti 5.

Conti 6 is out and getting great reviews, but not generally available as yet in the UK.

I will go for Michelin PS4 when I next need tyres, also worth considering Goodyear F1 assymetric 3 as these can be found for £8-85 and perform well, if not quite as long lasting as others.

Personally I had the same thing at my 1 year service. Dealer tried to make me buy two new fronts from them at a crispy price. Said no thanks I'll swap them some other time. So 1 week later I bought 4 new Michelins PSS, much cheaper than the Bridgestones the dealer would've put in place. I recommend them, no more wheel spin.

I wouldn't say you could go wrong with the conti tyres they are excellent tyres.

I personally like Michelin and have just got the new PS4 but any of the top brands will be fine

I had 4 Michelin PS4 fitted a couple of weeks ago at a cost of £114 each. They're mega. No wheelspin at all from a full-bore standing start, better cornering grip, quieter and amazingly, they seem to round the last edges of the ride quality, increasing refinement even more.

I can't fault them, and would highly recommend. They also look nice!

Excuse the dirty wheels!

I've got PS3's which are shed loads better than the Tombstones, but if I had my own choice it would have been CSC5's.

My GTD is miles better since I've got the PS3's on it - really much better.

I'm pretty happy with the Bridgestones at the moment. They probably suit my sedate driving style but I won't be changing them in a hurry that's for sure.
If I do it will be for Michelin PS4's I would imagine.
