Long time member but a while since I posted.
I have a 64 Plate R, 3 Door DSG with Reversing Cam, DRC and Winter Pack, Mine was one of the first, I think 3 months after the first ones were on the road,
Anyway my lease is up at the end of April and I really have been offered a killer deal by the leasing company to buy the car, I was close to buying both a B8 RS4 and a Tesla model S (I know very different beasts) but decided the golf is where my heart is and I haven’t had the best out of it yet – Iv done 19k in it. For those that are wondering the price im offered + what iv spent on the lease is less than the car was new without options... and my first two years were fully maintained. I know this shows how saturated the market is but I know the history of the car and it does everything I want it to do bar...
I recently sold my old 525 BMW which I used for tip / dog / mountain biking duties due to the cost of insurance and their being no need to have two cars. Which brings me to my question, Im looking for a REAR mounted bike rack for my R, does anyone have the OEM VW unit? or know if it even fits … I can`t get a straight answer out of VW?
My second option is to install a removable Witter tow bar and use my Thule rack I already have. I know the car is not rated for towing but I am led to believe the standard Mk7 will fit with a bit of fettling.
It will never be used for Towing… just the bike rack
The VW unit is listed at £520 RRP which seems allot, The tow bar kit is £180.
I don’t want anything that touches the paint.
Any thoughts?
