Auto lights delay

Could anyone confirm if there is a bit of a delay between starting the engine and the auto lights coming on? My previous two cars have had auto lights and both came on immediately as soon as the engine started, but the Golf's come on after around 20 seconds, which just seems a bit odd? I find myself waiting to drive off waiting for the lights to come on!

 So - the Light sensor  that's bonded to the windscreen is the device that initiates the "auto" function. It basically has two reference levels as set by the factory: The turn-level which is nominally 500 lux during twilight and the turn-off level, which set-to  200 lux during dawn. The driver has the ability to alter the turn-on level around the threshold setting via the MENU (early, normal, late) and further modifications to this threshold are possible with a VCDS cable.
The response of the light sensor is deliberately dampened so that the lights don't suddenly turn off/on when the car travels through a bright/dark patch, but when the ignition is turned-on for the first time there is a vey short wait time for the electronics to stabilise before the Auto function works. The wait time is dependant on the ambient light conditions at ignition turn-on - but generally it isn't long - in my experience

same on mine, they are slightly slower to turn on than my previous Gti, but I have already got used to it

dont seem to see the calibration 'dance' because of the slight delay though!

Mine come on if I open the door if its dark enough, they stay on all the way through starting the car. Unless of course I mess about for longer than 30 seconds. There is a setting in the menu to adjust the sensitivity.

So many strange things about the Golf 7 electrics - at least on mine.

My car would only do the 'dance' if the light switch was left on Auto...

Thanks for the replies. Interesting. What I'm talking about is get in the car in the dark, light switch is in 'Auto' position, start the engine, put it in gear, go to drive off - no headlights. Wait a few seconds, headlights come on. Seems to be the same time that the head unit springs into life. Also noticed that the passenger airbag off lamp in the middle of the dash seems to stay on for quite a while. Bizarre.

I have the same effects. Also takes same amount of time for the internal fan to light up / activate.

Passenger airbag light does stay on for a while. I've always accepted that as normal - I don't even look for it to go out.

My headlights come almost immediately after I turn on the ignition, if the light is low enough. Always worries me, as I was taught to start the engine, before turning on the headlights, to put less strain on the battery. I have to consider that the car and it's systems have been designed to do this, so I leave my lights in auto. Always ready to drive off as soon as the engine has started. You must have something not quite right.
