I also came from a FN2 Type R and after nine months of owning the Golf, the only thing I can say I miss about the Civic is the awesome gear change! The Golf movement isn't as quite precise, although I am used to it now.
Yeah the Honda gear change is unbeatable. I had a custom built shortshifter and weighted skunk2 knob so was amazing.I've been looking into weighted gear knobs for the golf but seems their isn't many options. Tempted by the Black Forest industries ones but quite expensive and then you still have to pay import tax
The VW Racing adjustable shift linkage is a good one. Set to it's shortest setting it's lovely and short & mechanical. Not DC2 ITR precise (but nothing else on the planet is!), but 100% better than standard.
Been looking at them on awesome gti, think I'll need to get one at some point. I take it when it says side shift it just means it reduces the sideway throw? Seems that the vwr one is the only one with that.
One plane is adjustable...can't recall which. But on it's shortest setting it was DC2 ITR like....just not quite as polished.
Another reason why you should have bought the car from glen
