9 R's at Altrincham Vw according to the dealer I spoke to today.
Not a single GTI though.
What's going on?

It would seem the R is the new GTI.And so it came to pass...
Current: Golf GTD MK7  3 door manual carbon grey.

I am delighted there are more Rs than GTIs. Both great cars but nice to have heritage and rarer car. Suits my needs perfectly.
If they undercook the GTI like they did for the MK3 then I would be tempted away but with the GTI being so accomplished I am happy .

I love the R's capabilities but like the look of the GTI more, and even though it's not as fast and is only front wheel drive, I'm glad I ordered one.
Also lets not forget that it's a fair few grand more than the GTI, especially if you spec it up a bit, and if like me you are buying it outright, you have to draw the line with your bubget somewhere.
My line was £26000 max.

Apparently the smart dealers use some system loophole to steal build slots on R's. I was told its still 6 months on an R factory order. I was too tight to spend the extra on an R

MK7 GTI - Deep Pearl Black - Standard Spec - Ordered 10/12/2015.

MK7 GTI - White - Standard Spec - Service Pack - Collected 11/09/2013.

Could not agree more. The R is a stunning car I am sure all the R owners are happy with their choice, and rightly so.
My itch is with the clubsport not the R. When the order book opens for that I need to sit on my hands 😀

I wonder what the respective UK sales stats are for Mk7 GTD's, GTi's and R's.  Certainly VW must have sold more Mk7 R's than Mk6 ones.
