New Clutch - Suggestions
« on: 08 October 2015, 00:11 »
I'm needing a new clutch and was wondering if anyone had any ideas whether it would be worth to put in a different clutch rather than OEM, heavy duty or something.  I'm looking to get a little more use than this one ended up with (61,000 miles). Recently bought the car so it has clearly been driven by someone who was a bit harsh with the clutch. Needs to be a fairly similar cost though. My car is a 2.0 TDI Bluemotion Match, thanks.

I upgraded to a sachs race clutch last week & is definitely different from stock.

The race clutch/flywheel is a different animal to the oem, I wouldnt advise unless you have stage 1+ like myself then of course its a must I think. I have drove the stock clutch on my GTI for over 2 years tho with a stage 1 without slipping.
Is obviously a lot more expensive as well.

My issue was Darkside Developments sending me the wrong clutch for my car & the mechanic stressing about it. Then they sent me another direct from Germany at extra cost & the courier didnt show up till late so took me 2 days to get my car back & the garage stressing me the whole time.
Im not very lucky with cars or mechanics..

Thanks for replying man, after carefully thinking it over I decided to go for another jelly VW oem clutch. I've had a look over the facts of remapping and decided against it, don't plan on keeping the car for more than 60,000 so I should be good.

I could have supplied you a Helix organic clutch, but its a heavier duty clutch for modified cars with much more torque.

If you are standard then a standard clutch is perfectly fine.
