You do know the A1 is a different fitment compared to the Golf?

Golf   5 x 112

I got ours Audi TT alloys and put Nankang Snow tyres on them. All for under £300.

I just found that out (PCD differences), I won't be buying those then.

16" wheels definitely don't fit an r.

I have some winter tyres from a previous car. Just wondering if they would fit my PP golf? Tyres are 225/50 R17. Which alloys would be suitable?  A nice set of 17's would be ideal.

Ideally you'd need 225 45 17 for the Golf.
Most VW group wheels will fit so long as they're around 7.5 or 8" wide, 5x112mm PCD and an offset between ET50 and ET40 (maybe a little lower than 40 too but not ideal if you get snow.
