Lol you're all showing your age, I had a Leon fr. Traded up from a 1.4 Megane. And I loved it so much I replaced it with the facelift! What you need is a decent map charv but if you're warranty conscious then a tuning box, I sense you can afford the expensive ones too

And yes a full exhaust system will effect the warranty but it's the downpipe vw won't like the most so ask your dealer if a simple cat back would bother them too much, severely doubt they could link any engine faults to bigger tailpipes and a lack of a muffler imo

When I was 21 I had a mini 850 with so much rust you could see the road passing by through the floor.  But I still enjoyed owning it at the time.  Just enjoy it, don't mod it.  I had to wait until my late 40's before I could afford a brand new Golf GTi.  People admire the car until they see the old git getting out.

When I was 21, I had a Mark 1 Toyota MR2, all white, fully resprayed with no decals and the classic pop-up headlights! :-)

When I was 18, I blagged a test drive in a brand new one of these. At 21 I'd saved up enough to buy a 3 year old Mk2 Cavalier SRi 130.

I was 29 when I bought my first new car. A 1999 Golf GTI, albeit a 2.sl0w.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

At 18, my father bough me a Mercedes. At 21, my father bought me a Jag E-type. At 30, my father bought me nothing as he was dead. I bought myself a Datsun 240Z. At 40, I bought myself ..... can't remember. At 50, I bought a Porsche, an Alfa and a Mercedes. Moving on to 90, I leased a Golf R and a BMW. At 100, I will hopefully be in a hearse (leased for the day), any make of hearse, but not a black one, please.

The E-type was launched in 1961, so if you had one of the first, that would make you just 75 Asker. Still, I suppose at three score plus ten, plus a bit more, things can seem quite confusing.

The whole post was tongue-in-cheek and with many untruths and even more inaccuracies. Stop being so serious and lighten up. I can just imagine you calculating my age which you got very wrong.

I am off to the beach in Greece now.

I forgot .....

Oh, and the E-Type remained in production for many, many years.

When I was 21, I didn't have a car, travelled everywhere on my trusty old road racing bike (stolen long, long ago -RIP).

I didn't learn to drive till I was 30, and well, that was it.....no looking back!

Asker, there's a queue almost as long as a line at a Greek ATM on your Monza Shadow thread in the For Sale section, pop in and sort them out will you.

Me? At 18 I bought a Scirocco GTI of 1980 vintage in gold with contrasting rust. At 21 I still had it and was broke having just bought my first property. The Scirocco had turned into an oil leaking mobile skip that was driven at 10/10th's everywhere whilst I renovated/bodged my new flat. It was probably a bad investment at the time as property prices were sky high and Maggie had sold off all the council houses then decided to make the whole country homeless by raising the interest rates to about 15%, which somehow I scraped through; often having to work extra shifts to be able to afford to put fuel in the car just to get to work in order to pay the mortgage. Happy days.
At 22 I'd scraped together enough to buy a 7 year old mk1 Golf GTI in white and then got dragged down the aisle.
I think I was about 40 by the time I'd scraped together enough loose change to be able to afford a new Golf GTI. But after years of scrimping I decided I'd buy a second hand one anyway.
