Hi I run a GTI with sport pack-ie big front  brake calipers, standard wheels are 18" I am looking to get ready for next winter and need some snow tyres and wheels(we get a lot of snow in Sheffield), I was intending to get a set of fairly cheap alloys with tyres and ideally would get 17" rims with appropriate tyres, a deeper profile works better on winter tyres and give me more choice (and cheaper). Dealer suggests 17"rims will clear the calipers but it looks very tight- does anyone have experience of this

Suggest you consider www.mrwinterwheels.co.uk when you are ready to buy.

Have had first class service from them and good prices.

They start to get a wide range of well known winter tyres in stock from August/ September time

I bought these from them and have been very happy with the Ultragrip tyre package, do clear the calipers, close but fine

I can confirm that 17" Monza's from the Mk5 GTi will fit a Mk7 GTi pp I also wanted to check I'd have enough clearance with the big brakes

I also took the opportunity to clean and polish the callipers - hopefully they'll stay bright red longer and be easier to keep clean
