Couldn't see if this had been asked before, but does anyone know if its possible to add the ambient lighting (the door strip and the interior door handle light) to the rear door cards of a 5 door ? Its a little project id like to investigate.

I know that unlike the A3, the Golf for some strange reason doesn't have rear door controller modules but was thinking of tapping into the power and lighting circuit that supplies the rear window switch, as that seems to be a switched live.

Trouble is, VW have never offered (from what i can make out) rear door cards with the active lighting strip, so was wondering if the LED units from the front doors would fit, or some other way of illuminating it ?

Anyone any ideas ?

I think it would be a popular and (should have been) OEM mod... I'm watching with interest!

I don't think this can be done without a considerable effort. To get power for the strip is not that hard, you can just feed a wire from the front door sills or front door strips to the rear doors to power on the LEDs.

The big problem that I see is installing the actual strips. First, the front door strips are shorter than the rear door trim and second I don't see how you could modify the existing rear trim to be able to see the LED strips when lit. If you look at the front doors, under the chrome strip thing there is a white/grey plastic diffuser which allows the LED light to come through when lit. On the rear there is nothing under the chrome strip so I don't see how you can cut/modify it to make it possible.
