Guard X Added to my order ADVICE PLEASE!!!
« on: 21 May 2015, 12:52 »
I know this may get moved into detailing but it was more a order question.

Having signed all my paperwork I asked my dealer for a copy of the order. Having got to work and looking over these figures I see Guard X was added to the order when I did not ask for this. It's been added for £500 which affect my payments by a fair bit as you can imagine.

First off should I moan to get it removed? Is it worth having? and how much should I try to get off?

As I have signed my paperwork im guessing I would need to get this redone

Not worth £500 - this could get you one hell of a protection package from a pro detailer which will probably be many times better than guardx applied by a valeter in a garage.

If you didnt ask for it they do not need to apply it upon delivery and charge you for it. Call them and as for it to be removed.

If they haven't applied it to your car yet then get it removed. You could buy the materials to do a better job yourself for under £60 and have plenty left over for reapplication later. For £300 you could have a decent detailer do everything for you with better stuff that will last longer.

Even if they have your car now and have applied it, you didn't ask for it - they've been a bit sneaky. Standard practice these days to add Supagard/Lifeshine (at £300/400) + GAP at (£300/400) to customers orders for many dealerships.

Get on the phone and knock it off your order.

On a 3 year PCP, the general rule is you pay out 115% of the ticker price on an extra, so almost £16 a month over 3 years.

They can knock up a new order no bother. My salesman did a new one for me 2 weeks ago when I added extended warranty on. If they try the "sorry, it's too late" then tell them to strip it off as you're not paying for something they covertly added to your order. If that doesn't work then ask to speak to the sales manager about it.

If that doesn't work then get on to VW UK about it. Did you take out their GAP inadvertantly also? Check your paperwork and bin that too if you have it - ALA will do you a policy for no more than £120.

The salespeople get personal comission from every protection pack and GAP policy they sell - yours will see about £80 in his pay packet for your £500 spent.

I'd certainly be getting them to take that off. They are trying it on. Most people that don't 'know' cars will say "it's only an extra £15 a month" and believe that these products do all that the blurb says the do. As others have said, a pro detailer will do a much better job with first class products for much less, or you could do it yourself if that's your thing.

I often wonder how many people who fall for the sales patter actually get the products applied. I know a valleter at Vauxhall dealership that is given 1 hour to prep a new car, including applying Guard X. It just can't be done, so the salesmans attitude is"fcuk it, they'll never know."
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Don't do it, get it taken off.  Laughably overpriced and no control over if, who and how it is applied - almost a sure fire way to ensure your nice new car is swirly from the outset.  Do it yourself at a fraction of the price (these things are relatively easy to apply), or spend the money on a decent professional protection detail.

I would echo all the advice here Ben - I had my car detailed by a really good professional for 250 quid (it took him 8 hours - and it shows!). In fact I would not allow a dealer to even wash my car let alone apply specialist treatments.

They have a cheek assuming you would want it - I would be fuming!

The problem is they dealership will apply this over the paintwork they have swirled preparing it

If you are not into the big i'm picking up my new car thing I'd personally not let them prep it and drive it to a detailer

I have Gtech on the R and this has mean some marks have easily been removed but this is only applied after a machine polish
