Just a follow up, got a friend to diagnose, came up "pressure sensor 1" he prompted me to ring vw which I did,I explained the problem and they put me in touch with my local dealer,  they took it in yesterday  to diagnose, they then rang to say that it was the abs pump and vw would cover the costs under "goodwill" and we're also going to do a recall the car had missed which was to replace the "coil packs" they rang earlier and said "all done, I picked car up all valeted and gleaming very happy and somewhat amazed! I had dsg fluid and filter done at same time and that was the only charge!! Considering that it's a 2005 car I'm staggered! Any way I'm Well happy, just thought I'd update

Ah you had the G401 Brake Pressure Sensor failure

Had that on my Audi back in January and had to argue the toss with Audi UK before they relented

What you'll find is that they will have fitted a repair kit rather than a complete pump but either way as long as its free then its all good
