Gonz - this is a suspension issue which is very well documented and discussed (your symptoms are identical) - try a Google search and you will be directed towards a number of forum threads that were active around six to ten months ago. WV claim the issue is now resolved - how old is your car?
I can vouch for this and share the utter frustration. I've had this same rattle for ages, and the VW dealership just couldn't find it... until NOW. They have replaced the rear suspension and it's now no longer rattling
. Still have a bit of vibration in the dash tho'
