Accelerator Pedal Click
« on: 02 May 2015, 19:30 »
Hi Guys
The accelerator pedal on my new manual gearbox GTI has a notched click about 90% of the way down, its like it stops about 2cm from the carpet and then you have to press it harder, it clicks and then depresses right to the floor.
Is this normal please? it feels really weird.
Thanks.

Completely normal - it's like a kickdown pedal. On a manual, it allows full access to everything the car has got. Tootling around in eco mode and momentarily need the full response expected in Sport mode? Floor it beyond the click.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Mine had that noise also, 2 min fix at the dealer, it's is the pedal catching on the carpet.

It isn't a noise, its a physical "step" in the throttle travel. If its normal then its damn weird.

It is indeed the 'full beans' button.
The car is pretty much designed to be ordered with all the electronics gizmos so they can all work homegeonously together. This button is really designed for people tootling about with DSG boxes with ACC engaged letting the car do it's own thing who suddenly require full acceleration getting the box to kick down from top gear to where it can provide max acceleration (when you come up against a group of cyclists who think they're on the Tour de France and all bunched up on a busy A road waiting for a lorry to splatter them, or a dawdling traaaaactor, or someone with one of those new Citroens with a mattress stapled to the doors that think they will use the tank of fuel it came with for the whole ten years they own the car thus never getting above 20mph ever) in a situation where the clever computers can't (yet) overrule the driver.
Unfortunately us manual drivers have to suffer the stupid switch as well.

If you have the car set to Speed Limiter, by pressing the pedal right down to the switch it automatically disables it.
I've found it really useful.
