Jesus you'd have been slitting your wrists if you'd waited as long as I did for mine in 2013. Ordered on 1st April 2013 and driven away from dealers on 26th September 2013 and that's after being told it will be no longer than 12 weeks!

And before that, even longer delays with some mk6's; it was an 8 month wait for me from placing the order and taking delivery of my mk6 GTD back in 2010/2011.

My R order is 7 months and 4 days old today. Supposed to be getting built next week, 3 weeks to deliver via Tyne if I'm lucky? That'll be 8 months.

Ronald at VW UK rang me yesterday, not sure whether it was to tell me good or bad news. Had to ask him to ring me back as I was heading off for a job interview as he rang, and he never rang back. I'm in Mexico on holiday today (just arrived at Riu Palace Riviera Maya), so I'll not get a reply til  I get home.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

ouch 7 months is a long wait. Its shocking that by todays standards you have to wait months for a new car, when in reality they only take 4 days to build. VW really needs to improve their service in this area. you shoudlt ahve to wait more than 3 months tops.

Why say three months?  Why not three weeks?

Joking aside - at the end of the day they take as long as they take - you just order in good time, simple as that

Exactly.  They are long lead times but rightly or wrongly, that's the way it is.  It was no different with the mk5 and mk6.  So you have to factor that in when considering whether to order or not.  I wanted my R for Sept so worked back and ordered end Jan allowing worst case scenario of 7 months wait.  If you really want the car then you just have to suck it up, or you go elsewhere - BMW and get a car in 5 weeks

There are loads of production reasons why the lead times might be as they are - dealer allocations aside.

I'd be interested to hear what VW claim their designed time frame is, although I doubt that they would ever reveal that.

All I can say is that VAG must be really confident that their product is desirable when their German competitors can deliver in a fraction of their lead times.
