I think they would have been better making a Passat .:R Estate.

For those that remember the B6 Passat R36, it was a cracking car. It was also the correct size for an estate car.

If they did make one, would you be tempted?

I think the Bi-turbo R Line Passat is a far better and more apt use of engine and car combination than the R36.
It's a shame they didn't slot the 3.6 engine into the Golf as the R32 struggles to shift all that weight. A workmate of mine has an R32 and my GTI will show it a pair of heels with a fair bit less horsepower. I know the GTI is quoted at producing a fair bit more BHP than the factory let on but the R32 has technically 30bhp more (but less torque and you can really notice it in the mid range).

That's a tough one. I could never see myself without an estate car and a fast petrol one would be a lot of fun, but for everyday driving around, I much prefer a diesel.

My replacement for my current Passat will most likely be a B8 Passat Alltrack. Probably with the 150PS engine, as the 190 and 240PS ones with their fancy catalysts and the need for Ad-Blue could be troublesome.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Just shows how big Golfs are getting. The load capacity of the MK7 Golf estate is nearly 100 litres more than the B6 Passat, and the same as the B7 Passat.

I love quick estate cars, and as someone who has hobbies that require a reasonable sized boot, and a baby on the way, the R estate (in principle) is right up my street. 4WD, DSG, 300bhp... Yeah I fancy that a lot!

I must admit however, that I'm not 100% sold on the looks and it boils down to something very picky... The rear lights. Why haven't they given it some lovely LED rear lights like those that distinguish the GTI/D/E and R Golf hatches from the others in the range?

I will still consider one in another 12-18 months time when my GTI is due for changing, but the favourite at the moment (I know it's in a slightly different price bracket) is a 335i M-Sport Touring. I know the 4-pot in the R is a mega engine, but if I'm paying upwards of £35k for a car I think I'd like a creamy 6-pot.
MK7 GTI 3-Door DSG, Tornado Red, Discover Nav, Winter Pack, ACC, Keyless Go, Reversing Camera, Service Pack... Ordered 28th Oct... Collected 1st March!

If you want a really powerful wardrobe, why not have a look at:

But to be fair, I'd be looking at a BMW if I wanted a fast estate.
