The 2.8 is a smooth lump but not that quick, esp in a A6.

Also check the timing belt tensioner was replaced with the belts. I had one go on my A4 and it a whole front off the car job to get access to do it.

oh and the cam cover gaskets weep too.

Any hesitation on acceleration is likely sh!tty injectors.
