Oops, i mentioned the Mrs and GF in the same sentence !  Hope she doesnt lurk on the forum !  :lipsrsealed:

Agree with the points that you make though, you seem to end up exploring all the alternatives and in the end always come back to a golf !  There was a bit in a recent autocar about this, I think it was Goodwin said he was kicking himself for never having owned a Golf, having had one to run about in (TDi 150 I think) he said it was remarkable in the way it did everything brilliantly and that VW's best people work on the Golf next gen because its the one product they absolutely have to get right..

I had a Mk7 GTI on test for a weekend and did 300 miles in it and loved it, this was not even a PP one just was so much fun and inspired confidence

My R decision was i like to tinker and for that i felt 4wd, i also have the olop

For me a GTI/GTD is such a great all rounder and if the R went for something less practical I could see one of these in its place

I wound a few people up on the Rocco forums about the mqb platform in recent weeks especially in respect to the Rocco R

People I know say whey do i never drive 3 Series or Mercs etc and oddly never appealed for day to day as the Golf does so much so well
