Aftermarket exhaust systems
« on: 09 February 2015, 19:36 »
Unsure if anyone has got an aftermarket exhaust on their GTI yet.

I'm looking at replacing the at least part of the system. I'm not so much looking at power gains, but more make the car sound like it has more than 1.2 under the bonnet. (My sound actuator is disconnected).

I can't see much around, and being a noobie at replacing exhausts has anyone got any tips.

I should say, I'm not against replacing the whole system, but don't want to spent more than £800 ideally.

I can highly recommend the BCS downpipe which is well made, and produces a nice throaty noise with the added benefit of a few more HP and better throttle response. I suggest you also do a search for more info

On most of my previous warm VAG motors I was quite partial to a set of pipes (scorpion on an S2/RS4). Love the looks and sound of the akrapovic (but not the price) for the mk7 but the TD1 chat puts me off. Engine powertrain mods invalidating the warranty.

Does this improve the noise without the rest of the system changed?

Did you fit it yourself? Or did you get a local guy to do it? Have you replace the cat or decat the system or literally just the downpipe?

It would be a pain to fit yourself mate, but any local garage worth their salt should be able to do it. The DP comes either no cat or sports cat, but you will get the cel light on unless you go 200 cel I think.

I disconnected the soundaktor and it was too quiet but didn't want it too loud or to drone so went for axle back only. Because I had had Remus on all my bikes and they are excellent quality I went for the quad system that comes with a valance as well. You can't tell it is on there if pootling around but give it some and it is a pleasant deep sound.

Do you mind me asking how much it cost?

The quads looks good! Did you have to make any body work adjustments to get it to fit?
