How did you get on with coding?

I have a 59 plate with same headlights, I had to tell the car it didn't have DRL. This got rid of all the error codes but obviously they don't work as DRL. ( no biggie)

A lot of people I've spoken to haven't had any problems come MOT time, as long as they are correctly aligned, i don't think you will have much trouble.

Yeah i tried that also mate, but made no difference. It was only after i installed the LED tails and switched to code 15 everything worked without the dash light. Ideally, i need to buy a new BCM, or get the software updated on my current one. The only thing putting me off switching BCM modules is having to re-code the keys. Not sure how difficult this could be?

I also bought a new BCM and wasn't sure how to program the keys. Over at myturbo diesel they program a MK5 and think it's just the same for a MK6. Here's a You Tube Video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdakPlMnDr4

Did you fit the BCM yourself then mate? For what reason did you have to change yours? I would have thought with yours being a 2012 it would have had the later software installed already? Thanks for the video bud, will have a watch.

No the Vag Tech that fitted the lights fitted the new one. The one in the GTD was a midline BCM part number ending in 086 where a highline ends in 087. The highline has the 2 extra pins which you run from your Kufatec harness to trigger the main beam shutters. When he first installed the lights with the midline BCM the software supported the bi xenon lights. The only thing was no high beams. Thats when i had to buy a new highline from VW at £263...ouch!! Since found out that you can trigger the main beams with a midline BCM..even more ouch!
When i had the error bulb after scratching my head i decided the new BCM was at fault so i purchased a new one from ebay at ...£60 even more ouch! Then with help from Mike with coding and replacing the Kufatec harness life is bliss, well no error bulb!

OUCH indeed mate, that is expensive! Was going to say, my BCM Module ends in 086 but everything is working. There is a couple of things i would like to work better, which is the DRL strip dimming with the indicators, the inner led tails stay on when you pop the boot, which i know should go out, and the LED DRL strips to be on when the lights are all switched off. Im guessing these little things may work if i switch to a newer BCM? Just don't want to kill the car by messing up with fitting and coding in a new BCM module.

I believe that with these headlights the LEDs are actually connected to the sidelight circuit and there is no connection for the DRLs, hence the error message. There is a lot of information of an Australian site (although the lights are sold by a guy in Canada, but also available from China) on these headlights:

Also if you connect pins 4 and 10 on the headlight connector, then the LEDs act as DRLs, but do not dim, so possibly not fully legal. Details in this thread:

My drls dim to 50% when i pop the indicator on. I don't know what an ED35 does when they put the indicators on..anybody inform me. As far as i know mine act as OEM. As far as i know i ended up with the Highline BCM to have the pins 48 and 49 on the C connector for the main beam shutters.
We picked an ED35 12 plate of the auto trader to get the VW parts tech to order a BCM for my car. I think as the 2 letters on the end of the 087 part number change..evolve think that gives the latest software version.
I bought an MG TF today so i'm off to the MG forum to get myself sorted..i just love the old cars

Ahh yes, I have come across this before, was thinking of giving it a go actually. So would this keep the LED strips on when the switch is set to off / or auto (during the day)?

Think I'm going to have to at least try and get a new BCM, I would love mine to run perfectly like the OEM ones. I mean, they are working perfectly fine now, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist (some may say OCD ).
And for booth, a picture as promised of the xenons on with the LED strips, good colour match?
