Sounds ignition related to me, check leads, plugs and injectors if you can and obviously any vacuum leads . I had a similar horrendous judder which was due to a knackered fuel pump but it only happened under high demand. Good luck !

Thanks guys, I had been wondering about leads etc, but the leads are new, as is the dizzy cap. Could be the coil I suppose. When it did it at speed it felt like misfire, but when setting off its not quite the same.

Really annoying me now.

With all of the work I have done recent almost all of the things discussed above were affected, so I cant really pinpoint where my poor workmanship may have messed something up.

The front mount was undone to replace the starter.
The lift pump was removed when dropping the tank
The leads and cap we all replaced when they melted in a fire.
Almost every vacuum hose has been replaced
The plugs were taken out, cleaned, and put back in, not replaced though.
The injector rail was removed and refitted as the loom as damaged in the fire. Injectors were left in though.

All of the above was done at the same time. And it drove fine until about 500 miles later :/

If your front mount was loosened off then my money is on that. Things often work fine until you fiddle with them and then after being disturbed they rapidly deteriorate i.e. after only 500 miles. Also garages tend not to use torque wrenches which means for small bolts they are over torqued and large bolts like the main one in the mount are under torqued. So check torque and/or replcae front mount would be my suggestion to try next.

Dont write off fuel, if you have ever run out of fuel you get a judder. Might be losing fuel pressure. That's if you're comfortable the ignition system is ok. Switching out for a working coil can't hurt.

Fuel (like most of the other theories) makes a lot of sense. I just don't know how I would test it really.

I don't have access to a working coil (other than the -maybe- one in my car). But I can buy one

Hopefully I will find time this weekend to trouble shoot it.

THREE MONTHS of this judder I finally found time to diagnose it.

It was a split inlet duct, for anyone else searching with this issue

Inlet ducts usually splits when the front engine mount has excessive movement.
Good you found it

It's been on and off quite a bit recently with one thing and another, so on this occasion I suspect it was that, but I will double check the mount to be sure, thanks for the tip :)
