cheers Booth,
E-mail sent to the garage! Can't believe how widespread this issue seems to be. I thought those Germans knew how to build a reliable motor. Can't got from Italian to German and get more problems!! (tho it would be just my luck!)

Another question!
Been told the car's not got the latest satnav software installed. Is this a big/costly job?

These cars are generally bullet proof and well built. As mentioned by previous members, timing chain could be an issue on 59/10 plate cars.  % is low compared to the number of GTIs out there imo but I wouldn't risk an engine failure and treat it like a cam belt change. Factor in 300£ ish.

Also rear LEDs are not standard in 59/10 but look the business so would factor in 300 for replicas or 600 for originals (coding required).

In terms of wheels definitely make sure you get 18in, 17 look too tame.
For gearbox I went for manual but DSG is a great box provided its maintained properly!

Updating RNS is straight forward and free if you do it yourself, plenty of how tos on the forum.

Before buying my car I was drooling all over a brera! Same as yours, 4wd with the sweet V6 but then thought I'd be a bit more sensible! But it is one of the prettiest cars and and future classic imo

Cheers Gaurav,
I've really struggled to find a replacement for the Brera. The looks just never get old. But the £500 tax bill and 20mpg have worn me down and it's time to get sensible...ish.
Thanks for the advice. Agreed the 18s look far better than 17s and have made sure the garage are going to replace the DSG box oil as part of the sale. LED lights already fitted!
Put in an offer today so just waiting to hear back. Fingers well and truly crossed!!

Hi Gang,

Still looking for that one GTi for me. In the meantime I've got another question. If the car has the Winter Pack it'll have heated seats, but does that mean that if it's got heated seats it has got the Winter Pack? Basically, can they be added separately or are they only available as part of the Winter Pack.

Trying to figure out what's actually on the car from some of the adverts is nigh on impossible! Park assist can mean Parking Sensors, Reverse Camera or, occasionally, the actual Park Assist!!

If it's got leather it will have heated seats  but not necessarily the winter pack.If it's got cloth seats which are heated its defffo got the winter pack.heated seats are standard with leather.

Buying a used car, even from a VW dealer is nothing like buying a new one when it comes to spec. They seem to have little product knowledge and will list whatever comes into there head when they advertise a cars specification.

The winter pack consists of -
1. Heaters Seats (standard with leather)
2. Headlight Washers (standard with xenons) (also don't be fooled by the washer caps on the bumper as all GTI/Ds have them)
3. Low Screen Wash Level Warning Light.

Park Assist is often interpreted in many different ways too. The tell tale signs of proper Park Assist is sensors on the sides of the bumpers pointing at 90 degrees to the kerb and the switch in front of the gear lever with a steering wheel on it.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Yep good point. I did quite well with mine as the dealer didn't know it had park assist, but I could tell from the pictures it did due to the extra sensors.
