Mak Wolfs in 18"

ok, between the two I'd go for the Glendales but wouldn't buy genuine VW ones, I'd buy some Italian replicas with TUV approval

I don't see why 19" alloys would sit any different to 18" alloys as the overall circumference will be the same? I had 19 BBS on my MK6 at standard height and thought they looked fine. And I'm not anti-lowering as my other car has lowered suspension, it's just that the mk5/6/7 GTI's look fine at standard height IMO.

Fitting bigger diameter wheels always has gives the visual illusion of increasing the tyre to arch gap, even if the rolling radius of the tyres are the same. I don't know why it's like that. There is a GT up the road from me on 17" wheels and to look at it, you'd swear it was lower than mine. The tape measures confirms they have exactly the same ride height tho'.

It's the same as two identical portions of food on different sized plates. The one on the smaller plate will always look more.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

As Jimmy Somerville once said (before turning into Louis Van Gaal) "It ain't necessarily so"

Here's my much missed MK6 stood nose to nose with my friend's old GTD company car, and allowing for the fact the GTD might possibly have 5mm or so extra suspension travel the big wheels don't have massive arch gap...

I'll have to dig out my brochure to check this, but I've got a feeling that the GTD has the same sports suspension as the GT, whereas the GTI is a further 10mm lower.

Got both, it's difficult to choose.

The Glendales will negatively affect the ride and I don't think they handle as well as the 18's, but they are unique.

With less sidewall on the tyre they will also be more prone to damage on our pothole infested roads.

Out of the two I'd definitely go for the Shadows. I can't warm to the Glendales myself for some reason and as others have mentioned the side skirt difference,Ay not suit either?

I'd be tempted to look at a nice pair of BBS - always look nice on a Golf and are timeless.
