Maybe the answer: when the official VW mexican website says that the GTI has 220ps@6200rpms, they "forgot" to tell that the output is FROM 4500 TO 6200, and 350@4200 (4400, actually) means FROM 1500 TO 4400.

Two unsolved issues about the differences, yet:

- Mexican/American versions do have only 4 injectors (direct injectors), whereas German version has 8 (direct/indirect)?
- American version is supposed to have 210hps, and PP 220. Is that a real difference or only a matter of "metric", as there's a small difference between PS and HP?

the difference in bhp and ps is negligible at these numbers, thats power difference will be as a result of crapper fuel states side, however i dont think that can be blamed for such difference of RPMs

Andrei is most likely correct - MX/BR probably only quote power/torque at one rpm level whereas Germans give you the whole range where that power/torque is available.

It's possible that VW only use direct injection in the Americas and omit the port injectors (which were put in for emission reasons - think particulate emissions - as well as preventing the inlet valves from coking up), this will have only relatively small impact on overall power.

The reason for 8 injectors vs 4 is that it allows you to have a flatter torque curve.

I forget which way round it is... injectors close to the head are good for low revs and further from the head high revs (or vice versa) and in the middle you phase from one to the other... this flattens the torque curve... we used to do this on my mate's rally car but we've realised that it is over complicated...

If the US variant has only 4 injectors this might explain why it has an apparently different torque curve but eventually develops the same power...

This is more than likely down to differences in emission regulations...

I just took a look at my maintenance manual. The engine code of my german MK7 GTI 2015 is CHHB. That's supposed to be the same code of an european GTI. If I'm not wrong, german GTI Performance engine code is CHHA. As much as I know, when the difference stands only in the final letter, that means that THE ENGINES ARE STRICTLY THE SAME (HARDWARE), THE DIFFERENCE IS THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT (SOFTWARE).

That was the case with my now gone S3 8P: the engine code in Brazil was CDLC (256ps); at the time, the european S3 8P engine code was CDLA (265ps); the TTS was CDLB (272ps); Golf R was CDLD (270ps) in Europe, CDLC in US; and so on. Same engine, different softwares.

I know this is an UK forum, but anyway: do we have a mexican/american fellow here that could take a look at the maintenance manual/check the engine code, so we can clarify this out??

Cheers
