front seat split
« on: 12 October 2014, 21:14 »
Hi guys.

Firstly i must apologise as still havent had time to set a photobucket account up for pics of my build progress.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone knew how to split the fron seat apart ie. The base away from the back. Ive bought a new recaro interior but need to swap a seat base as one is damaged.

Thanks in advance

With an attitude like that it could put people off helping you.

Have you look at the seat and tried to work it out yourself? Is it 3 door or 5 door.  A mk3 seat comes apart in about 2 minutes once you look it it's dead easy.

Yes it is possible as swapped the base foam on my drivers seat with a decent passenger side one I sourced cheaply.
It's quite simple really and the only fiddly bit Is unhooking the metal rods that hold the seat cover on. Everything else is a case of unscrewing and unclipping.

Once you've removed the lower plastic surround trim it becomes very clear how they come apart. The uppers are more difficult, especially if you have a lumbar adjustment knob as these are f**k*rs to remove without breaking out or tearing the covers.
Adding heated seat pads shouldn't be an issue at all once you've got the cover unhooked.
