Right! Michellin Pilot Super Sports fitted and where do I start!!!!
Even though these are part worns, one with a puncture repair even! I could feel the difference as soon as I sat inside the car. It "sat" much nicer and felt less rigid (probably due to the softer rubber compound). So far so good...
Then I pulled out the car park with a huge grin on my face, the difference is PHENOMINAL. Where the Bridgestones would be hopping/tramping about while the traction control light gave a light show through the dash, the Michellin's had no wheel hop and smoothly pushed all the power down on the Tarmac, traction control blinked very briefly, once...until it was happy the tyres had the power under control.
The car feels so, so much faster now because all those horses are being used to propel the car successfully up the road. The GTI came up to its first roundabout, 3rd turn...it swung in and then gripped onto the road like there was glue on the tyres. So much more assured, you could feel the rear Bridgestones frantically trying to keep up with the sudden changes of directions the Michellins were making, not having a choice but to drag along and follow suite.
I'd go as far as saying they are the best upgrade so far to the car overall!! I wish I had changed them much sooner...and in fact I'm already looking at throwing away the rear Bridgestones that still have 6mm of tread and replacing them with the same pair of Michellins.
The GTI should never have come with Bridgestones, even at standard they can't cope with the power output. What were they thinking....
My advice to anyone buying a GTI? Buy a new set of tyres now and rip off those Bridgestones before you do anything.
