Had a look in Silverlink today, just to look at the whole palette of Golf colours and reassure myself that Lapiz blue was the way to go and that I wasn't bothered about the 19" Pretorias.
Only one R was there, it was white, with Pretorias. I took a good look at them and they really do look dainty - one pothole and I think you may be looking at more than potential tyre damage. What I did notice though, was that the hubs of the brake discs look to be really well painted, not a spot of rust on a 14 plater they have there. I wondered, are those discs (presumed same as the ones on the GTI PP) universally better painted? Anyone with an R or a PP have any rust on their hubs? Maybe VW are painting them all better on the later cars.
Anyway, I looked and looked at a car that was listed up as Reflex Silver on the spec sheet, but didn't look white enough. I saw a Limestone Grey, which was significantly darker (and looking very pure titanium in colour), and finally at the back of the lot I saw a Silver that was very white and bright - it was the Reflex. The other had to be Tungsten Silver, it was more of an Opal Silver (i've not confused it with Oryx). Then I saw a black GTD (i'd almost forgotten how my dad's looked, not seen it in 9 months, and it was filthy when I did) - looks very menacing.
If I could be arsed with cleaning it every other day and cobwebs etc sticking out like a sore thumb, i'd be going for the black, but after seeing a Rising Blue Scirocco I just about convinced myself i'm sticking with Lapiz Blue.
