Ordered an R
« on: 08 October 2014, 14:05 »
Hi again everyone.
Last year I had a GTI on order but due to a change in circumstance I had to cancel.
Now due to another change I am once again able to join the fold with an R on order, although the wait is huge currently.
I have a question though which I can't find the answer to anywhere. Do the DCC dampers need any special care as iid like to add this option and have driven a car with it this morning. I've heard some horror stories about them needing special maintenance and wear and tear on them is awful. Is this true?

People may be telling you about the old generation DCC. The new one is fine and I havent heard anyone say they need any more special attention. They will cost more come replacement time.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

I've had my MK7 R for about 6 months, it handles fine without DCC. For more advice try Golf R forum.co.uk

Everyone there (R forum) advises to have it. Same with every forum - those that specced it will say its essential and those that didn't will say the ride is is just fine without. Not sure about 19" without, but on standard 18"ers on my GTD, I find the ride as nice as it gets on firm, sporty suspension (MK5 ride was terrible on even 17" rubber).

Had the old version on 2 Sciroccos as standard equipment. Difference was apparent, but didn't feel strongly enough to spec myself. I had mine in Sport all the time except when set to comfort for roads with a danger of potholes (to lessen the impact). I found comfort wallowy and normal fidgety in everyday use, and had the system pack up twice in sub-zero temperatures. If I was carting around my Nana all the time she'd appreciate comfort.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I was chatting to a friend at the weekend who works in a main VW dealer selling finance. He was saying everyone is buying R's at the minute due to the finance deals. He did say he cant recall the last time he had a customer speak to him about a GTI

MK7 GTI - Deep Pearl Black - Standard Spec - Ordered 10/12/2015.

MK7 GTI - White - Standard Spec - Service Pack - Collected 11/09/2013.

I thought about an R - but these masses of sales they're having kind of ruins it for me. Won't feel as special driving one knowing that so many other people have them!

Will save my pennies and get a 2015 Mustang

Great looking car but the 5.0ltr would be a killer on fuel costs and the 2.0ltr eco boost just isn't right in a mustang

Wonder if VW will do a promotion on the GTI to boost sales as everyone and their dog is now leasing an R, from downsizing middle management types to youngsters who have just realised how cheap 300bhp is right now!

Anyway, did someone mention a 5.0 Mustang? I wasn't aware we had luxuries like that in the UK so I'm off to investigate!!!

I doubt there are masses of sales, but in these forums we're probably in contact with 1 in 5 R owners/prospective owners vs 1 in 20 or less GTI/GTD owners. Maybe not those figures, but proportionally so. So many people walking the streets wouldn't even knw what an R is, but would know a GTI.
