Most people out there will see the RRP and think they can't afford it without even looking into monthly costs, and not realise that the exceptional residuals keep it relatively cheap to run for what it is. Even at £30k, I think it's a good buy - there are plenty of mediocre cars out there for 2/3 of that, which will depreciate like a stone.

The GTD has mass popularity as a company car as well as a privately driven car, the GTI less so as a company car, and the R less again (emissions/tax exposure). So many people out there unwilling to be paying out £300-400 a month out of their own take-home pay for a privately owned/leased car.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I thought about an R - but these masses of sales they're having kind of ruins it for me. Won't feel as special driving one knowing that so many other people have them!

I've seen maybe 5 R's since they were released, and probably 10 GTI's.  Don't be fooled into thinking that this forum represents the demographic of car buyers out there - there's still plenty of sh!tters on the road to look special against

Last weekend I went to the Goodwood breakfast club "Hot Hatch Sunday" and there were five "R" models, four in lapis blue and one in black. My GTI MK7 was the only one there.

I didn't display my car, but there seemed to be more R's than GTI's in the car park, and on site there were loads of R's.

I would have preferred to see older Golfs like G60's (and much less modern stuff too) but there was a nice Scirocco Storm and Fiat Strada Abarth there...

Apart from my own I've only seen one in Newcastle next to NUFC Academy in Benton! I would suggest 'overrun' is a bit of an exaggeration :)
