Odd for me (even after a year of ownership), is the backwards step of not allowing any real functionality of the bluetooth system from the DIS display (the screen between the instrument clocks) using the steering wheel controls.

Only your last call list is present, whereas on my older Scirocco, you could retrieve the complete phone address book and quickly search for a contact by scrolling (and holding the scroll button down would quickly change between alphabet letters). Now, (certainly on Nav Pro at least), VW want you to either using the voice control (which can be very flaky at best), of use the touchscreen whilst driving).

A backwards step I think.

Oh, and whilst I'm ranting, why is it that we GTD, GTI & R owners get a nice colour DIS display as standard, yet apart from the door open warning graphic, most things are monochrome (Nav directions for instance). If you ever look at the new A3 model with the colour display, everything uses colour and looks much higher quality as a result !

Totally agree with this. A colour display only showing black and white graphics and completely missing out being able to choose and dial a number (which I could on my mk6) is pretty backward.    Progress I guess!

My exact thought since taking delivery of my GTD.  There should be a lot more colour in the "colour MFD".  If I had paid for it as a spec option (which I did have initially when the specs were still in the air) I would have felt jipped.  My stance on this has softened slightly in the last few weeks though as I had a loan car the standard MFD.  The standard not only misses the colour but also the subtle animations and fades when swapping between screens.  They should have called it the animated MFD (there would be less complaints).

The headlight beam bend and turn assist is not active in Eco to save power and therefore fuel

Lols. But doesnt that strike you as daft?. People who drive in Eco don't need help like "normal" people? Id be interested in knowing how much more electric (therefore petrol) that this facility uses. Perhaps this shows the desperation car makers go to to make their mpg figures go as high as possible

You couldn't measure it... I think it would make more difference if you went for a number 2 before you set off...

Does ECO mode stop the heated rear window from working? I'm almost certain that it a much bigger draw than the bendy headlights...

What do you mean by turn off the rear park sensors? Why would you want to?

Im not sure how to explain it better. You can turn off the front facing sensors but not the rear facing sensors. Matters not why Id want to but since you ask :) I guess Ive parked a car for 25 years without them and having to take my eyes off parking the car to check what is beeping is counter intuitive to me.

If you were towing a trailer or heaven forbid a caravan you may want to turn them off when maneuvering otherwise they would get to be a major pain in the a**e

I think all of the "convenience consumers" power cutting in eco mode is actually a cross platform thing that comes from the electric and hybrid Golf models.... in those it makes a difference and the feature is just blanket across the range - VAG standardisation across MQB I would suspect.

You'd think there would be a software flag on non-electric ones though, whatever the German is for "I'm not a lentil knitting hippy freak, i burn dinosaurs and I'm proud of it" ;-)

I would strongly suspect that they automatically get disabled when you connect something to the tow bar socket.
The car certainly knows if you connect something up (as it will disable the s/s rubbish).
