« on: 13 August 2014, 09:19 »
Hi there,
I'm look at a Golf R for sale at a VW dealership with in the coming days. Is there anything to keep an eye out for when viewing it?
Also what mods do people recomend?

All I'd say is get a quote from orange wheels for the same spec car and you may find its cheaper to get a new one than pay over inflated dealer prices.Currently 12% discount with orange wheels.Only problem on a new one though, you'll have to wait for it.
I am assuming your looking at a nearly new R of course.

I've look into MK7's but I've found a low mileage MK6 and I'm negotiating a price at the moment. I fancy a used car as I can just get on with moding it.

Nice one pal, so you have not gone down the leasing route, like some, so it will be your car to do as you will,  :smug: mods ? I hope that's performance mods, low milage MK6, your on the right path, how much detail do you have about the car your looking at, DSG/Manual, MY ? Leather/cloth ? FF satnav [ICE] ? Colour? Are you trading a car against the Golf.
Check for knocking when driving it, also if you can, ha! try to see if the wheels spin up on acceleration, possible Haldex problem, wheel kerbing, panels, scratches dinks, all could get a few quid knocked off, but it it's a dealer, they should have sorted all those issues.
Good luck with it.
Ps
If it's a low miler you should be ok with any problems, check anyway, make sure you strap that salesman in well. Ha!

Thanks for the reply. The car I was going to look at was a low mileage 2011 car but it sold yesterday! I've had a car with DSG in the past and struggled to bond with it. So I'd rather have a manual but wouldn't discount a DSG. I'm not fused on leather or sat nav but like the sound of the adaptive dampers.
I've spoken to Niki at R tech about mapping and will be taking it to Alex at AKS for the hard wear and suspension set up. I just need to find the right car and have seen 3 on auto trader that I like the look of!
When I test drive one I'll boot it off the line to check the Haldex pump out but it doesn't sound like much else goes wrong with them?
Thanks for the reply!
