Do you Mk6 boys have an option for oil temp in the display?

Or maybe with a bluetooth OBD adapter and the Torque app on your phone?

If so, I would use oil temp as the limiting factor and peg it at 130°C.

Sadly the Mk4 OBD system does not measure it so I can't have it, but it is a very useful thing to have.

The heat generated by high speed running will mainly be removed by the oil. At least in the short term.

As the heat soaks through the engine the water will also pick up extra heat, but that has direct cooling and fans if needed so water temperature will not be a good indicator of engine stress.

Oil temperature is probably a much better indicator of engine stress than anything other than the rev counter and it will react quickly.

So, as my previous post. Hoof it along but keep the oil temp below 130°.

Hi

I have done a number of timing chain replacements at work and don't get me wrong it is a big just but once timed up and everything set to the correct Torque setting,All is fine just like when she left the factory :) like with anything major if it isn't set up correctly you will be able to tell straight away :)

Don't worry too much, as said as long as oil temp stays decent there's no limit.

BTW how long does it take you to Vienna? My best time from Midlands to Upper Austria where my mom lives is 15.5 hours (crossing channel using Eurotunnel)?

Doing that journey about twice a year.... and am looking forward to my summer vacation this year (Scandinavia road trip >4k miles in 2 weeks).

Dear itavaltalainen

I used to set off from Sutton Coldfield at 5am and then eventually get to Vienna at 2am. So pretty much non stop driving for a 1050 mile journey. Which I quickly realised was rather daft.

Now I stop off in Bonn for the night and see good friends. It is virtually half way between home in England and home in Vienna. However, the second day drive from Bonn to Vienna is so dreary as it is all motorway.

Great weather in Wien at the moment - 26 centigrade. I and the good lady driving from Vienna to Zagreb in a couple of weeks to go to their animation festival. I like Zagreb, well the old town anyway.

Where does your mother live in Upper Austria?

My mom lives near Wels, so you probably drive past there (where you leave A8 and join A25 then finally onto A1 near Ansfelden).

Pretty much all motorway between where I live (not too far off J7/M5) to Wels West (A8 exit 11) or Meggenhofen (exit 38) and then countryside roads.... I usually go up from Calais to Brussels, then past Aachen, Köln,... pretty much all on German A3.... then A8 in Austria

Zagreb sounds nice, lots of people told me it is... never managed to go there yet... maybe next year. This year off to Hamburg (gonna pick up my brother who takes train there from Austria), the Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Bergen, Oslo, Stockholm, Rovaniemi, Turku, Helsinki... and back again (on ferry helsinki - travemünde though).

My good lady comes from Kiel (north Germany), the capital of Schleswig Holstein, which is a pleasant but sleepy place by the sea. We enjoyed Copenhagen a while ago, but you will surely have a fabulous holiday on your travels.

I have not been to any of the other cities on your list.
