I don't think that the screen price is all that relevant to many buyers. There's not many people left that hand over their debit card for the full amount. For many, it's all down to monthly payments, so as long as predicted residuals are strong, it wouldn't matter if the list price began with a 4 or even a 5.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Exactly, we are in a rent a car culture.  Next to no one owns new cars anymore sadly. The days of neighbours thinking  next door must be doing well for themselfs because of the new car on the drive (thats when its wasn't a white company car) has long gone.

I have thought the same for a long time.
i would even go to the level that rent-a-cars should be labelled to help others avoid them. Maybe a small round sticker similar to some rental cars have. company cars should all be sign written..

12% discounts on mk7 Rs via brokers do make the mk6 prices look expensive imo.

Same here.  Always bought our personal cars outright with cash/debit card. There's something very satisfying about saving for a car, my R fund is now 2/3 of the way to target and it's a nice feeling.  Makes a big difference to me knowing that I own a car, don't think I'd feel the same if it was leased etc.

Took a ride in a colleagues's brand new nissan juke this week  which is effectively rented and she asked why I didn't just do the same.  I explained but she didn't get it and just said she couldn't care less about owning the thing.  Mind you maybe if I had a juke I'd feel the same

Exactly the same here, I always like to own mine and a mate of mine doesn't like it when he's boasting about how he's got an Audi A5 when you point out he doesn't actually own a single piece of it!
