Ecp Triple qx
« on: 24 April 2014, 12:08 »
Been changing oil with triple qx for a while now on my mk4 1.8t and haven't reported any issues, some say it is shell oil, it meets the vw specification and is very cheap think the last few oil changes I got 5L for £12.
So the conclusion is i will continue to use triple qx and not be a brand snob ... yet
So if your reading this and wanting to change the oil, finding the most expensive oil because it must be better save yourself £40 and treat your misses

Have you checked and measured your bottom end shells?

Then how do you know if that oil is any good? With oil you do definitely get what you pay for.

Have I measured mine? Yes I have. You use a plasti gauge then torque the shell up to spec then undo the bolts to measure the plasti gauge to see if your shells are in tolerance.

I use fuchs titan race pro s 5w40.

True mate I cant tell you whether the oil is good or not specifically, not going to argue, people will make their own decisions whether to buy it or not I just thought I would mention that my car has been running fine using that oil as I havent seen anyone else mention it

It probably is fine. But you're not going to know unless you get two new cars, run one car on that oil and the other with a decent expensive oil and drive them identical to each other and then wait and see what engine fails first.

My cheapest 10w40 is VW's own Quantum for £19 but not what I would advise for a mk4. I know triple is not shell (I have a very good idea who does fill it  :lipsrsealed:)

My local bargain shop sells 10w40 at £12 and It would scare me to use on a modern 20v engine despite the vw spec on the bottle! (a 5w30 or 5w40 should be used)

On a 1.8t I see little point in trying to save money on engine oil, they suffer blocked pick up pipes at the best of times without adding to the issue.

OK, so who does fill it?

I use TrippleQX 10/40 in all my cars (except my G60 - got a large supply of syntasilver for that) and it seems to do the job nicely, although I change oil every 6000 miles anyway. Current cars are mk 3 TDI and Audi 80 TDI.

Ordered oil and filter from ECP last night for the mk3, on offer - £12.98 :) don't think I'll be using anything else..
