management light issues
« on: 23 March 2014, 16:11 »
hi there my mums vw golf 1.8 turbo has been playing up

the problems started a while back when the car was down on power and eventually started misfiring and broke down or stalled a few times

a new of coil packs and plugs and the car seemed to be back to normal except for overfuelling and smelling of eggs from the cat. it runs fine and wont break down now

we scanned it with a normal reader and it came up with the following

ignition coil a fault
ignition coil c fault
fuelling too rich p0172

i drove the car when we first got it and it wasnt very quick at all. mpg has gone downhill too

i disconnected the maf sensor and the car seems to boost better now.
the too rich fault has gone away which is replaced with the air flow too low which is normal having a disconnected maf

has anyone got any ideas what it could be. the management light does come on still sometimes even with the maf disconnected

we are going to change the temp sensor as well as its a little intermittent. we have mot soon so need to get rid of the light.

we are also having a triangle with an explanation mark on it. this has only come on when i disconnected the maf but seems to be linked to the esp is this normal?

You say you scanned for code but did you clear them? Did you take it for a drive and check again?

yes i did. the 2 coil faults remain but the too rich is changed to air flow too low with the maf disconnected

we had someone with vagcom to scan it but nothing different to our universal reader

we checked the reading for the maf sensor which was about normal but on the way home with the maf connected it wasnt quite as quick

the explanation on the dash is for the esp but for some reason comes on with the maf disconnected. this goes away when you plug it back in

i have ordered a new maf and temp sensor. i have renewed the engine of the coil earths but still the same

weird how the car runs perfect with strong power but still getting these coil faults.

hi all just to comment to maybe help some one out

looked at the coils and renewed the earth to see there was 2 bosch coils, and 2 no name coils.

i asked my step dad why and he said ecps only had them in stock

so we refitted the old ones and the car ran like crap. replaced the 2 new cheap ones with bosch ones and the management light isnt showing a coil fault anymore

seems the weirdest thing ever because the engine run fab with the cheap coils in just was throwing up some weird codes

the air flow meter we brought seems to be faulty as the car ran weird with it in.

the cars currently running with the original air flow disconnected and is running very well. i didnt buy the cheapest air flow either as i heard they can be crap. any ideas on ones that will definitely work?
