Few strange noises conformation wanted.
« on: 17 March 2014, 20:47 »
Right the valver has been promoted to my daily and has happily been racking up the miles (well apart from the blown brake line)

Anyway today I noticed a weird noise at mid to low refs sounded like air being sucked into a turbo.

At closer inspection I'm suspecting the alternator bearings, I've done the old brake cleaner test and there's no air being sucked in anywhere around my inlet. There does appear to be some play in the shaft of the alternator is this normal or are the bearings f**ked?

While looking around I've noticed a intermittent knocking noise that appears to happen every few mins coming from the airfilter box. Is the possibly the plunger in the metering head sticking?

And lastly when looking under the rear of the car to try and find where my exhuast is blowing I've noticed a really small amount of fuel around the fuel pump housing is this likely to be pump or something else?

On the subject of fuel I've worked out I'm returning 37-39mpg surely for a 2.0l 16v that's suspected to be a oetinger this is way to high is it possible I'm running lean? Not noticed any tell tale signs

Oh almost forgot when on bumper roads I'm getting a vibrating metal kind of noise coming from rear?

I'm thinking exhuast heat shield

Right  just been out to pick my lad up from cadets and the vibrating noise is coming from the rear drivers side, so I suspecting the fuel pump assembly mounts, had another look at pump assembly and looks like the plastic housing has a small split where the housing joins together. Are these still available new?

Nope! Nightmare to get decent 2nd too obviously

Best thing it to scrap the lot and start again.

Get a decent fuel pump that's rated to the same or little more pressure and get a for of swirl pot. Can get little plastic housing swirl pots that can mount under the car pretty neat and do the same job

Could change the whole thing over too a mk3 tank and pumps if the price is less. Think you need to run the mk3 lines aswell

But would that give enough pressure to run he k jet? My understanding was the mk3 system was low pressure

Problem is its 2nd hand parts again so could well replace only for it to fail a few weeks later.

If possible I would prefer to come up with a longer lasting alternative

Last time I investigated was looking towards states for parts you might need to pay some VAT importing but it solves a problem?
Maybe german ebay aswell its fun like learning a new language and parts names are pretty well same if you use part numbers to re confirm parts!
