Many garages do free MOT re-tests. Ask him if he'll do a free re-test if your's fails. Cos he may have been inclined to offer you a free MOT in the knowledge that it is going to fail and he'll get another test fee from you. He'll also be hoping to get the job to do any work needed. He gains all round really so don't let him take the piss.
