Scirroco Engine into a Golf cabrio
« on: 31 August 2005, 08:03 »
Does anyone know if its possible to fit a 1.8 scirroco engine into a 1.8i golf gti cabrio and if so how difficult/easy this is.

I have an 87 cabrio and I've been offered a slightly modified 1.8 engine with carb rather than injection.

Any advice or names of places that might help me would be great.

Will fit no problem at all, the MK1 and Sirocco are the same car under the skin :)

Yeah thats what I have been told but thought I'd check.

What about the fact that the current engine is injection and the new one would be Carbs??

Will that make life difficult?

Not really as most of the sensors & anxilleries will match up, the carb wiring is pretty basic tbh only need some ignition live feeds for the carb & inlet manifold heaters.  They should run off a relay in the fusebox, I think the fuel pump relay is replaced with one for the carb but not 100% on that, but you could easily run a wire from the battery to an ign. live switched relay somewhere, as long as you fuse it you'll be ok :)

Whats wrong with the old engine anyway?  If the bottom end is gone you could swap the bottom end from the carbed lump ont your injection head and be away :)
