Auto Hold not working
« on: 14 February 2014, 10:51 »
Has anyone else suffered this yet -

Auto Hold was working fine when I left home, half way through my journey noticed it had stopped working and had a warning on the dash.  Did the usual, stop, restart etc but still not working.

Hand Brake still works fine as does the rest of the car, back to the dealer I guess.

What did the error message say exactly?

I had this twice already.... first time it was my fault... handle from my thermos mug pushed down on the Autohold button for about 15 minutes :D
Second time it was some sort of fluke...

Turning ignition off and back on has fixed it both times, not seen it since. No fault codes stored either (checked myself with VCDS).

Now it's been about 3k miles that I've seen it last...

I had this happen to me about a month into ownership. Text message in the MFD informing me that both the handbrake and the autohold had failed, and then an amber triangle in the MFD. When I got home, parked up, turned the ignition off, pulled the key out, waited 30 seconds and put the key back in….everything was back. Fault codes were logged, but my helpful dealer just cleared the codes, and did nothing but take my car out for a 28 mile spin before I collected my car. Happened again a week later and apparently a few sensors were replaced and a software update was applied. Hasn’t happened since.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Update -

When mine failed I did see a message on the display but did not note it down and after restarting it had gone but the Auto Hold still did not work, been several days now and it still does not work so scanned the car and got

4214 - Auto-Hold Switch
         C10CE 29 [008] - Signal Implausible

Also got a 16401 Short to Ground error on the Tire Pressure Warning circuit

Now booked in to VW Northampton for next Tuesday

That "Signal Implausible" points to one of the sensors, the system is saying that the value the sensor in question is reporting is either out of range or not reasonable given what other sensors are reporting...

I think it is likely a case of identifying the sensor, checking the connections and if they're OK replacing the sensor(s)...

Just got the car back from VW Northampton and though they state they found 'Sporadic Codes Stored' (for the Auto Hold) when they ran the Test Plan they found no fault and now the Auto Hold is working again.

Will be monitoring this to see if the fault returns, sounds like a traditional intermittent fault to me.

Also listed that they carried out a 'Free VHC' - no idea what that is, anyone enlighten me please
