Last time I had a Golf windscreen replacement, it was a MK5 one 6 years ago and the invoice was £221, for which I paid my £50 excess) - sure you can't live with it?

I think it may be one of those things you have to accept will happen over time, it just stings more because the car is brand new!

Just out of interest did VW do the replacement for you? and did the windscreen fit as perfectly as the original after being replaced?

It stops fogging of the screen and melts ice :) if it needed replacement I guess VW would have to supply the screen unless the windscreen companies can obtain them :)

If I were you, unless the stonechip marks impair your vision, I'd live with it.

If you did decide to get a new screen, there's nothing to stop the new one getting chipped, and you'd be in the same position that you are now.

I too wouldn't bother replacing a full windscreen for the sake of a chip.

It was a perfect fit. It was the 3rd windscreen the car had in 2 months. The car arrived and I eagerly took it away and about a week later I noticed the corner of the windscreen had a crack across it from the inside - the garage accepted that it may have been that way from the factory and missed at PDI, they replaced it (both Pilkington screens). About 2 months after that, I developed another crack, this time externally, but in the same place. VW garage said not their concern. Got a replacement on my insurance (St Gobain Quartz screen). The fitter (Autoglass) stated that the screen that cracked had been fitted under tension, making it more likely to crack when hit. The new non-VW windscreen was fine for the remainder of the time I had the car.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Right! Got a stone chip directly in my eyeline on monday! has anyone had there screen replaced in the mk7 yet? I'm with direct line insurance and will be requesting an OEM screen an new rain sensor, i've read that these come already bonded to the screen now?

Last time i had a screen replaced was in the mk5 and had a nightmare with the mobile Autoglass fitters, ended up having it changed again at there premises.

Not in the mk7 but I had it done twice in my mk6 due to warranty issues. VW supplied an OEM screen and all the necessary bits and Autoglass fitted it. They even replaced those rubber trims down the sides of the screen even though they pop off easily enough.
Absolutely perfect job, I would never have been able to tell it was changed.

Sounds promising, did you just deal with the dealership as it was a warranty problem? And did they do it at the dealership?

Is a chip in the line of sight only a problem at MOT time?

If so how long are you keeping the car? Would a repair suffice?

I had one repaired in the week by auto-glass just above my line of sight. Top job and have not noticed it since although if you look for it you can find it. The repair guy even went round cleaning all my other windows whilst i waited!
