I could never bare to sell my golf. Who ever bought it would just never be able to appreciate the amount of time and effort it took to get to the car they just purchased. The time stuck outside in the rain and cold trying to put it back together so you can go to work the next morning.
The investment you have made in the car is not only a monetary one but your time and energy. You have made it into what it is. The value is greatest to you, do don't sell it. We can keep sacrificing mk3's to keep our cars alive.
If somebody tomorrow went a gave you a perfect condition golf would you love it like the one you own now?

Whenever in doubt, go for a drive down your favourite road playing your favourite song and forget about how much money the thing has cost to get it that far.

Your such a Lemon. That's life. You own a car put lots of love into it and for various reasons have to sell it. You then purchase another one which has equally had the love and attention you put into your old one.

As Simon said, I reckon mine will owe me £10k by time I get it back this weekend but, to be honest, by then, it's been virtually rebuilt and drives brilliantly like the new car it virtually is. But as he also said, I've no intention of selling it. And every time I look at it or someone says how much they love it (which is pretty often) all of a sudden it seems worth it!

The only time I ever try to justify the money I spend on my car is when I'm getting nagged by my wife.

I was so close to getting rid of mine, but thanks to the guys on here I'm glad to say I still have it, it's still off the road just now but I'm glad I didn't get rid of it.  I hope to have it back on the road in the next month or two all going well,

I don't expect to ever make money on it, I just love the car, :D

I have to admit sometimes I wish I had spent my money on a mk1, gets a lot more looks and worth a lot more in the end

Welll, the car is fixed. It has a new steering rack and the auto electrician has sorted out the cold start stalling problem (one wire connecting the ECU to the ISV) so finally, after nearly two and a half years of ownership, the car is what it I always wanted it to be. It drives superbly, looks superb and it seems 'worth it'.
Now, I am not counting my chickens because I am sure something will go wrong soon, but it's now tucked away safely in my mum's garage and will come out in a month or two for show season. That also gives me a bit of time to pay this latest set of repair bills off!
Is it worth the money and effort? I would like to think I own one of the better examples out there so yes, worth the effort. Worth the money? Now that's a different question which I will only be able to answer if I ever sell it!!!
