Mute button?
« on: 05 January 2014, 18:50 »
I've got the Discovery Pro unit but wondered if there is any way you can mute the sound quickly without having to turn the volume knob down.  On my previous Polo GTI there was a convenient button on the steering wheel.
Golf R 7.5 Diamond Black, Discover Media Navigation, DSG, Winter Pack.

On the standard radio / nav units (no voice control) the Voice button mutes the audio.

The Polo button was most likely the phone button.

On Discovery Pro the sound is muted automatically when the phone is in use. Likewise with navigation instructions - if this is why you want to mute...

Discovered, quite by accident, that if you press the button on the right hand side of the steering wheel thats just below the OK button then that mutes the sound.  Its the one that looks like a face with sound waves coming out of it, if that makes any sense.....

Apologies if this is nothing new to forum members but its something thats taken me two months to discover about my car!!

That's the voice control button, are you sure it isn't just muting whilst you 'speak'? :-)

Ha, entirely possible, my car doesn't have voice control though as I've only got the standard radio unit.

Just re-read this thread and Joe GTI has already pointed this out earlier, story of my life, read things from the start before answering...!  Least I know what the voice control button is now

Yes it is the voice control button, but only if you have basic nav and have specced it or have pro nav then it's standard, otherwise yup! It's a mute button. :nerd:

With the standard system there is also a big a$$ mute button around the edge of the screen - I take it if you have the pro / voice control you lose that as well?
