If you are running adaptive cruise control (ACC), which will only engage over 20MPH but will run down to zero, it will automatically stop the car if the vehicle in front stops. It will switch off the engine and when the vehicle in front moves off will restart the engine and move off without touching the brake or gas pedals!

i seldom use ACC however when I do and the car stops it starts up again but never moves off I have to touch the gas pedal.

I use it most of the time.

As the handbook states for models with DSG"...(ACC) can start he vehicle moving automatically as soon as the vehicle in front begins to move again."

The car in front must move off within a few seconds of stopping otherwise you do not move off automatically.

I was curious about this too, Sootchucker mentioned that if you press RES when your ready to go again you don't need to touch the pedals, something else i never got to try again though. :-\

I use the acc a lot for on the motorway to and from work. Its fantastic. Your right that if you come to a complete stop it will only move off again if the car in front moves within 3 seconds. if not just a press of the res button will set you going. No need to move your legs!

Sorry that you're having a tough time with it Mr Savage, sounds pretty bad! Was your car an early car by any chance?

The only issue I can offer some advice with is the G3 Glasscoat. I very much doubt that the dealership employee who applied the stuff will have been a) trained to apply it properly and b) as meticulous as you need to be with applying SiO2 based coatings, therefore, inflicting scratches (unless applied/buffed with new/perfectly clean applicators then it's easy to inflict damage).

Where abouts in the country are you? I would be asking the dealer to subcontract to a professional detailer to rectify the work. My guess is that all they are doing in the bodyshop is buffing at high speed on the machine with a polish which is too aggressive, therefore inflicting even more marks. I'm not saying this is definitely the case but it's what happens every time I've seen dealership bodyshop work. The polish and polishing pad combo needs to become less and less abrasive to refine the finish to a crisp and scratch free surface.

Let me know where you are and I'll recommend a well respected detailer in your area.

Jon

Hi Jon,

Yeah you're probably right. They definitely didn't bother removing the G3 fixing the paint and reapplying it. They've made a right mess. Was gonna get it booked in to Midlands Car Care. I live in Nottingham.

For those of you interested I went back on Friday and this is how it panned out.

G3 Glasscoat;

They tried to blame my washing method for the scratches even though I told them I'm very meticulous, use 2 buckets, a lambs wool wash mitt and don't go in circular motions. (The Cheek) Oh and the scratches were there before.

Front Suspension;

Told them the problem was still there just not as bad and they are telling me that the GTI's suspension is very firm as it's a sports car and it isn't very quiet as his Passat CC was noisy too.

Sunroof Squeak;

He wants to remove and refit the sunroof next year, not sure I trust them in doing this at all.

iPod Cable;

They blamed my phone and said it works with everyone else's, when I asked for a demonstration they suddenly had no iPods around to test it with.

All in all a useless trip and a none impressive dealer. I'll be buying my R from someone else in a few years time. I did get them to agree to me taking out another GTI for comparison reasons early next year though.

Doesn't sound like a very positive result for you Savage. It's such a shame VW is let down by below standard dealers.

I would insist they at least attempt to put things right. If/when they do and it is no better, then reject the car and get yourself another one on order. It shouldn't cost you a penny more. Might even be able to negotiate that you keep the GTI until a replacement arrives like i did.

Yep, you won't go wrong with MCC - very high quality work. Russ is passionate about detailing and I follow his work on the Social Media platforms. Met him before too, nice chap!
