The BMC Panel filter I fitted to my Boxster S made a huge difference - throatier under load, with a properly loud induction scream at the top end of the rev range and much better throttle response! Worth every penny of it's £70 .... :)

It is worth noting for our less experience tuning members that the noise from a naturally aspirated Porsche is significantly different to a 16v turbo, so dont get your hopes up peeps.

pipercross, K&N and VWR somewhere, and no doubt there will be a green cotton filter out soon.

Just be interesting to see not only what benefit the panel filters give but also to see how our air box compares against the previous gen and if it really is as good as they say it is

I'd happily but the VWR one if I could find  it online... Any ideas on K&N vs Pipercross?

Me too, but Pipercross was the first one I came across so thats what I have, im happy with the choice as in usualy Pipercross Vs K&N conversations, pipercross is the more favoured one.

The pipercross one is more like a foamy filter that requires less oil than the K&N but the K&N has laps (ridges er peaks and troughs etc) so probably has a larger surface area, but combine that with the additional oil blocking the flow it may have similar air rates.

Where's the best Pipercross bargains online then?

Lol don't know about bargains but I bought my online from Awesome Gti there may be cheaper ones out there but we're talking a few quid, most are about 35 quid, you will need a recharger Kit, I'm lucky to have an old one from my old k&n but you can get cheaper ones in halfords I think, it's basically a bottle of soap and a bottle of oil lol

True - but the perceived difference is what we're after in terms of bangs for our bucks - is it not? Admittedly, since Porsche artificially restrict airflow just enough for the Boxster not to threaten the 911 - anything you do to improve on them makes a massive difference .....

Not known for certain, some say it's a snow protector... Either way mines in the garage now

The air intake readout from the ECU says the temperature is 0.5 degrees warmer than that outside air, which is I guess down to the fact that in the standard car it's being drawn from the engine bay.   I might remove that plastic thing and do another run....

You testing out panel filters there Monsta? I'd be interested to see how the standard filter compares to panel filters if you are?

As expected removing the plastic box assembly at the front of the intake so the vent feeds straight into the engine bay quite often means intake temperature is the same as the outside air temp.  The problem is that when you sit in traffic you get heat from the engine bay again so when you want that extra acceleration (i.e. standing start away from lights or a junction) there is still at 0.5 degree difference (hotter).

Going to try a cone filter next I think, skip the panel filter.

Was thinking generic cone, the right size to fit on instead of the filter housing.
